Medley has written extensively about Yosemite National Park for adults, but this is his first book for children. He has visited most of the parks he describes in this work, camping, hiking, backpacking, and birdwatching along the way. Though he still hasn't seen a grizzly bear, a nene, or a cougar in his explorations, he plans to keep looking. Mr. Medley is the president of the Yosemite Association and lives in Oakhurst, California, with his wife and three sons. Daniel San Souci has illustrated nearly fifty books for young readers, serving as author for several of them. He has an appreciation and affection for animals that are evident in his drawings and paintings for this volume. His pets over the years have included dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, white rats, pigeons, parakeets, doves, tortoises, turtles, frogs, snakes, and lizards. Mr. San Souci calls this alphabet book the achievement of a lifelong dream of using his art to demonstrate the beauty and importance of wildlife in our country's national parks. His nature books for children include Red Wolf Country, Ice Bear and Little Fox, and North Country Night. He also illustrated the award-winning Two Bear Cubs, his first title to be published by the Yosemite Association. San Souci lives in Oakland, California, with his wife and three children.
