A note from the artist:

I spend so much time working on my books that it is a real pleasure to take time away from my studio once in a while and go out in search of ideas for landscape painting, which is a real passion of mine. I love an area of California which is often called "John Steinbeck Country"—that area of fertile farmland near the Monterey coast. There is something timeless to the rural landscape in this area. It is a feeling that I try to capture in these paintings. My books will often inspire paintings. This painting of wild mustangs was inspired by my illustrations for the book Mustang Canyon.
